Another great read, and such a throwback 🥹 I still remember those catalogs in my house, and surprisingly enough, they still give me a better feeling than browsing through the internet and getting everything I could want, it’s insane how we are negatively affected by the power of the internet and instant rewards 🥲
Thanks for always reading ❤️ Instant gratification has killed the good old shopping ritual that gave buying new things meaning! Hope we can all consider bringing this old practices again 💌
Yes to all of this! I loved nothing more than getting the dELiA*s catalog in the mail even though I never got anything from there 😂 I did get things from the JC Penny Christmas catalog though! I would sit down and go through it with my dad and circle everything I wanted and then my parents would get a few things. It is such a special memory and the way we shop now has taken away that type of experience. I primarily thrift all of my clothes now and having pieces that I search for at the store and truly love has been a process of slowly and intentionally building a wardrobe that I love.
omg circling the things you wanted on catalogs was the best!! Our current digital shopping experiences are so sterile. Loved that you have shifted your consumption to primary shop second hand. I also stopped consuming fast fashion considerably a few years ago and there's no coming back, I love having unique pieces and knowing that I am giving clothes a second life <3 thanks for reading this issue Amanda!
I was talking with my grandma about the change in fashion and clothes this week!! About how much more each purchase used to mean and even when she was young there were less faceless corporations to buy from. Over the last year I’ve really moved away from fast fashion — buying less but sometimes spending more to ensure it’s a high quality piece that can last
100%. That is what inspired this newsletter issue!! The way our shopping works these days is not sustainable and really it gives me hope to find other folks with mindful shopping practices like you <3
Thanks for this question Anna! This was an acceptable gig because it didn’t require women to go to an office everyday, travel, etc, and allowed them to continue executing their duties at home. Things have changed a bit and women are doing many different jobs now but unfortunately, Latin American societies are rooted in machismo. Hope this helps to bring more context!

Curious to know why it was especially acceptable in Latin America, e.g. Mexico, to work in catalog sales ?
